A Card for Dad

Hello! Today I have a fun card using a floral set to make a masculine card. Yep, you heard that right. You can use florals on your cards for men, too!

Dad, You’re in a league of your own

I used the Flowers from the May 2019 Hedgehog Hollow Kit (sold out) and paired it with a sentiment and a Dad die from the June 2018 Hedgehog Hollow Kit. This kit was a favorite of mine, packed with dies and stamps for masculine cards…including a “jeans pocket” stamp & die. There are currently only THREE left (at the time of writing this post). Check it out here.

I used the Dad die cut to cut some chipboard and then I heat embossed it three times with Nuvo Copper Blush embossing powder. This is a beautiful coppery metallic color!

I chose a paper from my stash that had both teal and copper and looked a little bit like watercolor. You could also achieve this look yourself with a watercolor wash, but sometimes patterned paper is such an easy way to go!

Then I heat embossed the floral stripe on the bottom of the card using a softer embossing powder in Ranger metallic.

I finished it off with some Nuvo Jewel drops. Such a great card and I think it still looks masculine. Anyway, my Dad DOES like flowers! Lol.

Thanks for stopping by!

Cards for Brother

Hello! Today I am featuring the new “Brother In Christ” stamp set from Our Daily Bread Designs. If you have been following me, you know that I don’t make a lot of masculine cards and so this was a fun challenge for me.

The first card was one I knew I wanted to make just as soon as I saw this new set! It’s a beautiful square card with a shaker element! I wanted the sequins to mimic the look of the water.

LIVE FOR FISHING!

I used the Flourishy Frame Die to create the frame around my scene, but also used the Double Stitched Square Dies for the shaker portion. The stamp of the fishermen fit perfectly inside…and then when I cut the frame with the square dies, added a fun layer of dimension with a portion of the picture outside of the shaker! I’m not sure if I explained that correctly, but I really liked the way it turned out!

The “live” sentiment is from the Inspiration Words Dies.

SUNSET FISHING

Then, I knew I had to make a sunset fishing card. We used to love to walk around the vacation lake at sunset and I thought sunset fishing would be fun. After he saw this card, my husband said…”no, you need to go fishing in the morning!” Well, what do I know about fishing? Not much. But I know a sunset fishing CARD was a really pretty idea! Lol.

I masked off a circle for the “sun” and strategically placed it on the card just where I knew those fellas would be stamped. Then I sponged on Distress Oxide inks in some of my favorite colors: Abandoned Coral, Orange Marmalade, Squeezed Lemonade and Antique Linen for the sky; Faded Jeans and Peacock Feathers for the water. Then I stamped the image in my favorite crisp black ink.

For my last card today using this set, I tried my hand at a Lever Card:

My brother is definitely a beach kinda guy and he almost ALWAYS wears flip flops, so this card was just a natural. I really love the mix of fonts on these sentiments! I used the Lattice Background Die to ink on a interesting pattern on the front, and then used the By The Shore Collection Paper for the fun flip flops!

I hope you enjoyed a look at the new Brother In Christ stamp set. For more information and details, visit the Our Daily Bread Designs website here. Thanks for stopping by!

“I ruff you” Card

If you know me at all, you know that I make mostly “girly” gifts, packages, tea parties, cards, etc. I LOVE all things ribbon and lace, pink and curly. So when it comes to making more “manly” things, I have challenges!

My nephew had a birthday recently (he just turned 8), and he came down for a visit. I knew this was my opportunity to make something that he would like. I know that he loves dogs and so I got the most adorable doggie stamp set from Lawn Fawn to try out! Here’s the card I made for Porter:

i-ruff-you

and here’s the inside:

I tried some “masking” by cutting out a cloud from white paper and sticking it temporarily on the card front, then I used some distress ink on a cotton ball to rub on the sky color around those clouds. When I removed the cloud masks, I was left with a beautifully calm sky with the clouds left white!

I think this card turned out adorable (and not too girly). What do you think?

So guess who’s going to be using this set to make a nice Father’s Day card?! I think my Dad will smile.
